Together with ACL, we are offering an extraordinary photography journey to Tanzania, where mindful immersion in nature takes center stage.
Thomas, why did you decide to become a travel photographer?
When I set off on my first solo trip to Asia after finishing school, my goal was simply to document my experiences. Along the way, I realized how happy photography made me—especially when the camera opened doors to encounters with other people. That curiosity quickly turned into a passion. Ever since, I’ve been striving to constantly improve, capturing life and the beauty of our world through images and inspiring others with them.
You once cycled all the way to Beijing—soon you’ll be accompanying a photography journey through Tanzania. What fascinates you most: the people, the wildlife, the light, or the opportunity to share your passion for travel and photography?
No matter the destination, I truly look forward to passing on my enthusiasm for travel photography—or rather, sharing it with others. Capturing special moments in a photograph and experiencing that joy together makes everything even more meaningful. During my journey along the Silk Road, the stretches where I was accompanied by fellow travelers—and could share those experiences—were among the most memorable.
The main reason for going to Tanzania is undoubtedly the Great Migration. Being able to witness and photograph this powerful natural spectacle—something that exists only in East Africa—is simply incredible. As with any destination, I also hope for inspiring encounters with local people, golden light over the savannah in the early mornings and evenings, and, of course, the sight of Mount Kilimanjaro.
In your opinion, what makes a journey like this more than just a typical vacation?
For me, vacations and traveling are two very different things. Am I going somewhere simply to relax and unwind—or am I traveling to explore, discover, and truly experience a place? In Tanzania, we will make breathtaking discoveries and create unforgettable memories. Comfortable lodges and excellent food will provide relaxation and recovery after our excursions, ensuring we’re refreshed and ready to continue the adventure the next day.
