Day 1

Windhoek – Sossusvlei Area

At 08:00, you will meet for a welcome and initial briefing at Hotel Galton in Windhoek. At 08:30, you set off in your safari vehicle heading south-west through the scenic Khomas Highlands, before descending the Great Escarpment into the Namib Desert. A picnic lunch will be enjoyed at a beautiful spot along the way.

In the afternoon, you arrive at Dead Valley Lodge, where you will stay for two nights and begin exploring the extraordinary sights of the Namib Desert with your guide. If time allows, your guide may take you to the nearby Sesriem Canyon or Elim Dune. Alternatively, simply soak up the peaceful surroundings of the lodge. (P, D)

Overnight: Dead Valley Lodge****

Day 2

Sossusvlei / Namib Desert

An early start today brings a magical excursion into Namib-Naukluft National Park. You depart before sunrise to experience the dunes in the soft morning light, when shadows accentuate the dramatic shapes and curves of these unique red sand dunes. This area is home to some of the highest free-standing dunes in the world, and your guide will explain the origins of the Namib Desert as well as its fascinating flora and fauna.

After exploring Sossusvlei, Deadvlei and the surrounding dune fields, enjoy a picnic brunch in the shade of a camelthorn tree. In the early afternoon, return to Dead Valley Lodge in time for a freshly prepared lunch. If you did not visit Sesriem Canyon the day before, this can be arranged after lunch. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure – very welcome after an exciting morning in the dunes. (B, L, D)

Overnight: Dead Valley Lodge****

Day 3

Via the Gaub & Kuiseb Canyons to Walvis Bay and Swakopmund

Note: You have the option to take a sunrise hot air balloon flight before travelling to Swakopmund (optional, at extra cost). Details on request.

Continue north-west through the ever-changing desert scenery of Namib-Naukluft National Park, travelling through the impressive Gaub and Kuiseb Canyons. You reach the Atlantic Ocean at the harbour town of Walvis Bay, then continue north along the coast to Swakopmund, where you will enjoy the seaside setting and cooler coastal air for the next two nights.

Spend the afternoon exploring the town or strolling along the promenade. Dinner is served at a popular restaurant specialising in fresh seafood as well as other local and international dishes. (B, L, D)

Overnight: The Delight Hotel****, Swakopmund

Day 4

Kayaking or Boat Cruise (please advise at booking)

After an early breakfast, drive south along the scenic coastal road back to Walvis Bay, where an unforgettable marine experience awaits.

If you choose the kayak excursion, you will be collected by the kayaking operator and, after a short scenic transfer, reach Pelican Point and its lighthouse. The setting is truly unique (strong winds may occur). A brief stop near the salt works and surrounding pools offers insight into the lagoon’s impressive birdlife. Kayaking provides wonderful opportunities to see Cape fur seals, Heaviside’s dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, pelicans, flamingos and a variety of seabirds up close. With luck, you may even spot whales, leatherback turtles and sunfish. After your kayak adventure, light refreshments are served on the beach before returning to Walvis Bay.

If kayaking is not for you, join a boat cruise instead. Explore the bay with an experienced skipper and enjoy stunning coastal views. You are likely to encounter Cape fur seals and dolphins, along with pelicans, flamingos and a wide variety of seabirds. With a bit of luck, whales, leatherback turtles and sunfish can also be seen. Snacks, local sparkling wine and fresh oysters are served during the cruise before returning to the jetty around midday. You may then browse the small shops and restaurants at the waterfront before driving back to Swakopmund.

The afternoon is at leisure (optional activities such as scenic flights, sandboarding and more can be booked at extra cost). (B, L, D)

Overnight: The Delight Hotel****, Swakopmund

Day 5

Wild Damaraland – Rock Engravings at Twyfelfontein

Today you travel onward into the diverse region of Damaraland. En route, you pass Namibia’s highest mountain, Brandberg, while enjoying the vast scenery and the chance to spot wildlife. Damaraland enchants with dramatic table mountains, striking rock formations and unusual vegetation. The landscape of rolling hills, dunes, gravel plains and ancient river terraces was shaped by the erosion of wind, water and powerful geological forces.

The region’s variety, isolation and natural beauty offer an authentic understanding of the word “wilderness”. If time permits, you may visit the prehistoric rock engravings of Twyfelfontein (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) this afternoon – otherwise tomorrow. (B, L, D)

Overnight: Camp Kipwe****

Day 6

Desert Elephants in Damaraland

After an early breakfast, enjoy an exciting 4×4 safari along the river courses of the Aba Huab and the dry Huab River. This unique region is home to desert-adapted wildlife and hidden natural treasures. Keep watch for game – in particular the rare desert-adapted elephants, should they be in the area.

As elephants are typically most active in the morning cool, you usually have the best chance of seeing them before returning to camp for lunch. If all guests agree, a picnic lunch can be enjoyed in the shade of a large ana tree in the riverbed – ideally while an elephant herd grazes nearby.

If you have not yet visited Twyfelfontein or other nearby highlights, the afternoon offers another opportunity. A guided walk in the surroundings or simply relaxing at camp rounds off a wonderful day. (B, L, D)

Overnight: Camp Kipwe****

Day 7

Through Etosha National Park to Etosha Heights

Travel onwards towards Etosha National Park, entering through the southern gate. Enjoy a picnic and wonderful wildlife viewing, including stops at several waterholes. In the afternoon, continue to Etosha Heights, a private reserve known for its impressive wildlife. (B, L, D)

Overnight: Safari House****

Day 8

Game Drive in Etosha Heights

Your day begins with an exciting guided game drive with a local ranger in the Etosha Heights Reserve. Discover the diverse wildlife before returning to the lodge for lunch. Enjoy time to relax and cool off with a swim in the pool before setting out for an afternoon game drive. (B, L, D)

Overnight: Safari House****

Day 9
